Dreams Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud Essay - 1174 Words
ââ¬Å"Dreams are a series of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.â⬠This is the true definition of what dreams are according to Free Dictionary.com. Although many people are unaware of how dreams actually work there are two psychologists that have been able to pinpoint the true meaning of dreams. These two men are Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. There are many different perceptions on how people dream, what dreams mean, and why people dream. Sigmund Freud is known as the father of psychoanalysis, along with a psychologist, physiologist, and medical doctor. Freud worked with Joseph Breuer to develop the theory of how the mind is a complex energy system.Throughout Freudââ¬â¢s life heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These are often suppressed because people do not want to come to realization that this is a desire of this and this is often times why people dream about such things. Although Freud and Jung share a research topic, Carl Jung did not agree completely with the sexual desires concept. Jung believed that dreams are messages from our subconscious. Allen Hobson was another top contributor to the theory of dreams and why people dream. He is known as the first man to study dreams scientifically. Hobson created a new theory in the 1970ââ¬â¢s that was not based on the content of dreams, but how the brain worked during those dreams. In the article, ââ¬Å"What are Dreams?â⬠, it states the belief that Hobson had. T he statement is, ââ¬Å"It asserts that when we enter REM sleep, the state in which we dream the most, a signal is sent out from the brain stem located farthest below the brain, and the area of it responsible for visual perception becomes active. During sleep, we cease to input information from the outside world, so the brain takes memory fragments and pieces them together to create a story: a dream. The part of the brain that handles caution and judgment is not fully active at this time, which results in incoherent stories.â⬠ââ¬Å"REM means a stage in the normal sleep cycle during which dreams occur and the body undergoes marked changes including rapid eye movement, loss of reflexes, and increased pulse rate and brain activity. Global Warming A Climate in Crisis Essay - 911 Words
Global warming is destroying our earth. We, as humans, are responsible for global warming. Global warming is gasses that are trapped in the atmosphere. These gasses are water vapors, carbon dioxide and methane gas. Do you heat your home with gas, drive a car, or know someone who works at a power plant? These are just a few contributing factors of global warming. Gasses that are emitted from power plants and your automobile are fossil fuels. These fuels include oil, gas, and kerosene. Where do these gasses go? They are trapped in the atmosphere under what is called a green house effect (Time for Change p.1). I take the position that I do believe in global warming. In 1910, Glacier National Park had 150 glaciers; today they have 27. As a result of the glaciers melting, less fresh water will be available. This could leave certain cities that depend on the glaciers without the water source they need (Effects of Global Warming, p.1). Another result of global warming will be disturbances in the atmosphere such as very severe storms that will occur more often (Effects of Global Warming, p.1). Global warming not only poses a threat to our environment, but to the animals as well. In thirty years, the penguins breeding pairs went from 32,000 to 11,000 in Antarctica. Also, the polar bearââ¬â¢s populations are decreasing. This drop in population is due partially to the arctic ice melting which makes the polar bears swim out further in the ocean to find food. According to NWF.org, the ice melt totaled to be about the size of Alaska and Texas combined, which has a devastating effect on the polar bears. (NWF.org, Polar Bears, p.1). A Broken Wing Essay Example For Students
A Broken Wing Essay What is it like to be free? Bobbie Ann Mason, the author of Shiloh puts Norma Jean Moffitt through different tests in her life before she can find her freedom. Mason introduces us to a character who yearns to be free from her husband and mother. Throughout Norma Jeans life she has dealt with many difficult and trying times that sometimes may not make sense to her and finally this thirty-four-year-old woman is ready to spread her wings; fly away and see what it is like to be free. Throughout the story, Norma Jeans desire to be free is evident in tasks that she is taking on that she would not normally do, leaving her mother and husband blind to the fact that change is coming. Norma begins taking a bodybuilding class, an English composition class and a course in cooking exotic foods. These changes in Normas life are evident to the reader that she is trying to rediscover herself and find her sense of identity. Her husband Leroy takes notice late in the story to this situation and does not understand why she is going through all of these classes. In a conversation with Mabel, the mother of Norma, she explains to Leroy that Norma Jean just is not used to having him home. The classes are giving Norma the space she had while Leroy was working, but they are also the tools she needs to distance herself from Leroy and Mabel. Not only does Norma Jean want to in a sense fly away from her clueless husband but an overprotective mother keeps Normas eyes on the sky. As mentioned earlier Norma is thirty-four. Still her mother, Mabel is watching every move she makes. One day Norma is in her house with the door closed and in comes Mabel catching her daughter smoking a cigarette. Norma is found later crying to Leroy how her privacy was invaded by her mother. Norma and Leroy lost a baby when they were eighteen years old due to SIDS. When Mabel hears of a story of neglect, she confronts her daughter and accuses her for the death of their child because she smokes. This violation of privacy and space brings Norma down but does lift her up and she realizes that something needs to happen soon. The character and strength of Norma are challenged by Leroy and Mabel throughout the story. Norma has to adjust her lifestyle to accommodate Leroy whom she is not used to living with. She does not want the same things in life as he does. He would rather a quiet rural area with a log cabin and she wants to be with the crowd and wants nothing to do with Leroys cabin. When it is mentioned that the two go to Shiloh, it is suggested that Mabel accompany them. Mabel says how she would not want to invade a honeymoon and Norma angrily asks Who is going on a honeymoon, for Christs sake 980. Mabel immediately comes downà on her daughter saying that she did not raise her to speak with that tone of voice and Normas reply is that she has not seen anything yet. This scene is the foreshadowing of the climax. Norma is right, they have not seen anything yet, nor have they seen anything ever. They have been blind to her happiness all along. Norma Jean is given some massive dilemmas to act upon. Should she stay married to her husband and his pipe dreams? Can she stand to have her life examined and questioned by her mother? It is at the end of the story that a decision to leave is finally made. Leroy and Norma go on a little trip to Shiloh, a Civil War battlefield. After the two have a picnic they get into an argument She wont leave me alone, you wont leave me alone, I feel eighteen again 982. Norma tried throughout the story to get away from her problems by avoiding her mother and husband but it just was not enough. She needed to be free from all her worries and the two people that were holding her down. Norma Jean left her husband that day at Shiloh and nothing could stop her. American Dream: Compare/Contrast Great Gatsby And Citizen Kane EssayThe meaning of freedom may have different meanings from person to person. Being free is often overlooked by many people today. The major theme in Shiloh is conflict with Norma Jeans wanting freedom and a new way of life while her husband Leroy and mother Mabel hold her back. Norma is tired of living a sheltered and overprotective life and no one can see that fact. However, she always keeps an eye on the sky. When Norma does finally get the strength she needs and her emotional wounds are healed she leaves Leroy and Mabel with a broken wing but strong heart and takes off into a new world of freedom where she can carry out her dreams.

Progressive Era vs New Deal free essay sample
New Deal vs. Progressive Era During both the Progressive era and the New Deal era, policies as well as programs were being created in an effort to assist the American public, specifically those living in poverty. Throughout the early 1900ââ¬â¢s Roosevelt had strayed away from the typical laissez-faire policy and decided that the people would need to be guided by the government. ââ¬Å"Wilsonian Progressivismâ⬠had also aimed at assisting the public with his ââ¬Å"New Freedom Programâ⬠which consisted of antitrust legislation, banking reform as well as tariff reductions. After the stock market crashed in 1929, America had fallen into a Great Depression resulting in the unemployment of millions. Newly elected Franklin D. Roosevelt decided to present his New Deal policy which focused on three methods of helping America: relief (immediate action to temporarily lessen the suffering), recovery (executive and legislative initiatives intended to get the economy starting), and reform (permanent programs used to reduce the possibility of another economic disaster). We will write a custom essay sample on Progressive Era vs New Deal or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Both the Progressive era and New Deal era policies and programs had similarities and differences in their approach to helping the American public. The programs and policies created during both eraââ¬â¢s had been directed toward similar groups of people in need, such as the labor groups. Roosevelt had stood up for labor rights during the Pennsylvania coal mines dispute where the workers demanded a 20 percent increase in pay. Roosevelt had ordered the employers to give the workers a 10 percent increase as well as a working day of nine hours. To enforce his decision he established the Department of Commerce and Labor which spawned the Bureau of Corporations which was given the permission to investigate businesses engaged in interstate commerce. Wilson had helped the laborers with the Seamenââ¬â¢s Act of 1915 which required decent treatment and a living wage on American merchant ships. Franklin Roosevelt also helped the suffering labor groups by passing the National Recovery Administration which had reduced working hours as well as granting the workers a right to organize and bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing. Franklin Roosevelt had also battled private companies when he established the Tennessee Valley Authority which had determined how fair the rates being charged by private companies for electricity were. The New Deal legislation had led to an increased union membership and the winning of better wages and rights for the labor force. Both eraââ¬â¢s had also decided to create a new banking system in order to help the economy and thus the public. Wilson created the Federal Reserve Act/Board which appointed twelve regional reserve districts each with its own central bank. The board was able to create paper money backed by commercial paper in order to make sure the amount of money in circulation could be increased as needed. Franklin Roosevelt similarly established the Glass Steagal Banking Reform Act which spawned the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which insured that there were individual deposits up to $5000. The act had ended the bank failures and saved the money of many unemployed. The two eraââ¬â¢s had always attempted to assist the farmers. Wilson made credit available to farmers at low rates of interest with the Federal Farm Loan Act of 1916, as well as authorized loans on the security of staple crops with the Warehouse Act of 1916. The New Deal had created the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933 which made millions of dollars available to help farmers meet their mortgages. The Agricultural Adjustment Agency had helped the farmers increase the value of their crops by paying the farmers subsidies not to plant on parts of their land, kill off livestock and overall to restrict agricultural production. Lastly Wilsonââ¬â¢s Workingmenââ¬â¢s Compensation Act of 1916 which gave assistance to federal civil-service employees during periods of disability is similar to Franklin Rooseveltââ¬â¢s Social Security Act of 1935 which gave federal-state unemployment insurance to the elderly, physically handicapped and delinquents. Although both eraââ¬â¢s had shared numerous similarities in programs that were passed, they also had many differences. Due to the fact that the New Deal era was plagued with the Great Depression, Roosevelt had to focus on creating temporary jobs or programs to help get the unemployed working. These ââ¬Å"reliefâ⬠programs such as the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) had allowed unemployed and uniformed men to work in government camps by reforesting, firefighting, controlling flood problems, and they even helped with swamp drainage. Most of their money would be sent to their parents so they could pay their mortgages and other expenses. Another relief program was the Home Ownerââ¬â¢s Loan Corporation which helped refinance mortgages on nonfarm homes. During the progressive era there were no programs created to provide temporary work other than the NewLands Act of 1902 which helped develop irrigation projects, such as the Roosevelt Dam created on Arizonaââ¬â¢s Salt River in 1911. Another difference was when Roosevelt had passed the Meat Inspection Act of 1906 which made meat that was being shipped over the state lines subject to federal inspection. The Food and Drug Act was also passed to insure the mislabeling of foods and pharmaceuticals. Franklin Roosevelt had never passed any legislation addressing the issue of food and drugs. Overall, both the Progressive era and New Deal era had attempted to assist the American public through banking legislation, benefits for laborers and benefits for farmers. However the two eras differed to their approach to regulating the big business. Franklin D. Rooseveltââ¬â¢s New Deal focused more on creating a focused way of getting the unemployed back to work. The progressive era presidents did not have to concern themselves with creating more jobs for the unemployed and so they decided to focus on fixing popular issues such as the trusts. Both eras had remained loyal to the American public and managed to establish programs and policies that would be in the best interests of the suffering public.

Skimming and Cramming
Skimming and Cramming There are many study methods that are used by students while revising for examinations. Some methods are effective while others are ineffective. Effective methods are helpful since they help students to understand and retain a lot of information. Ineffective methods are not only tiresome but also lead to burn out.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Skimming and Cramming specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Therefore, it becomes increasingly hard for students using such methods to retain reliable and important information. With that background in mind, this paper shall describe cramming and skimming which are ineffective study methods. Cramming can be described as a study technique which involves trying to absorb a lot of information within a short time. It is mostly used by students who prefer to study when the examination is almost or during the last few days. Due to the pressure involved, it results in poor retention of i nformation for a long duration of time. It then serves the purpose of the examination after which the student forgets a lot of information. In many cases, a teacher gives a long deadline before the date of the test. Due to procrastination, the deadline almost comes to end without the notice of the student. A student may remember about the test may be a day or two before the due date. As a matter of fact, one day cannot be enough to go through all the work the student may have covered. At that particular time, the student tries to go through all the work and to retain a lot of information as much as possible (Pastorino and Doyle-Portillo pp. 216). The brain can be likened to a sponge such that there is need for it to absorb the information slowly. It can also be likened to a water way where water passes through while getting into a dam. A steady flow of water usually has no problem but when a lot of water tries to get through the same entry, damages usually occur due to over flooding and some water also gets lost. The same case happens to brain during cramming. Some information is usually lost and the habit can also be detrimental to oneââ¬â¢s health.Advertising Looking for essay on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Skimming is yet another ineffective study method especially while preparing for an exam. It is a method which involves reading a whole passage, a paragraph or any form of writing with an aim of knowing just the main idea. Therefore, the reader using the method does not read carefully but only searches for the main idea. The reader only focuses on the topic sentence and does not read other sentences that explain or support the main idea. In most cases, skimming is used by a person who is already familiar with the information being read because if material happens to be unfamiliar, the person can miss on important details. For instance, a person skimming through this essay will probably read the first paragraph which is supposed to contain the thesis or the main idea. By so doing, the person will be able to establish that the essay focuses on ineffective methods of study which include cramming and skimming. The next step would involve searching for paragraphs which explain the meaning of each method. In such a case, the reader wonââ¬â¢t waste time on reading the explanation part. For that reason, the method is ineffective because there is a lot that is left out. In addition, it is done fast such that there is no time to synthesize a lot of information (Reading Styles Skimming). The essay does not only focus on the description of skimming and cramming but also on why the two are ineffective study methods. Cramming involves trying to read and retain a lot of information within a short duration of time. On the other hand, skimming involves reading quickly through the reading material in order to search for the main idea. In that case, it is clear tha t skimming and cramming cannot be recommended to students reading for examination purposes. Pastorino, Ellen E. and Susann M. Doyle-Portillo. What Is Psychology? Intercultural communication class- Project Report Coursework
Intercultural communication class- Project Report - Coursework Example I met four African Americans and two Americans of British origin. The experience was strange yet engaging. The experience in deed challenged my comfort zone. I am an introverted individual who finds it difficult to interact freely with people. The situation becomes worse when I have to interact with strangers. The walk was as tiring just as it was adventurous. I tried as much as I could to play with the children occasionally and engaged the few adults I met in casual conversations. At one instance, a group of unruly male African American youths stopped and roughed me up thereby making me regret the idea. I presented myself the best way I could thereby enticing them into walking me around their neighborhood. With them as my tour guide, the remaining part of the evening became lively and gratifying. I became their friend and they promised to visit me some time later. Among the intercultural communication challenges, I faced included facing the societal stereotypes. I could not speak the English language as fluently as most of the people could. This made me vulnerable to their ridicule as they readily identified my background. Additionally, I could not identify some of the features of the new environment. The unique popular culture for example was difficult to comprehend. The marauding youths were loud, rough and appeared disorderly. They approached my in a condescending tone and often blurted abusive words which I later realized did not mean any harm. The walk was equally long and laborious. It therefore challenged my comfort zone given the fact that I do not like walking. Despite the numerous challenges I faced on the day, I learnt fundamental lessons including interpersonal skills that will help me overcome some of the challenges presented by intercultural communication. I played with the children, talked to a four adults and interacted peacefully with the unruly African American youths. I faced the youths courageously a moved that proved the fact

Summary - Essay Example This development saw music change into an interesting artistic industry, which changed the Africans lives through the information carried in these songs. Garvey and entertainment columnists used music concerts to urge the blacks to develop the black music to another level characterised by slow and low sound beats (Titon, 199). The purpose of advertisements included informing the public of new releases and improvement of the existing ones. This resulted to increased sales. For instance, a national dance made immense contribution to the sharp increase in record sales between 1913 -1915. (Titon, 196). The primary purpose of these records included entertainment and identifying with the music. During the World War, more black people moved to the urban ghettos. It became evident that, the immigration did not hasten the black integration into the white civilised society, however, it emerged that two types of separatism came into existence. The blackââ¬â¢s perspective on the establishment of the ghettos formed the belief that the ghettos should grow and become self-sustaining economic and political components. This belief developed to become the black metropolis. The Africans wanted to participate in politics and develop a society where they are recognised (Titon, 98). The advertisement and press coverage in conjunction with capitalist forces from the recording companies defined the down-home blues in such a manner that they have accompaniment voices from the men in the studio and with the aspect of advertisement and live performances, increased the sales. However, the capitalist forces took a lionââ¬â¢s share leaving the artists or owners of the records poor (Titon, 211). For instance, the artist had to incur an expense for recording, copyrights and production. The recording and production companies would only give the artist travelling allowances in return. This made the capitalist rich and the artists poor.

The Contrast between Gothic Architecture and Romanesque Architecture Es
The Romanesque and Gothic architecture period both occurred during the Middle Ages with the Gothic period taking place during the later half. Gothic and Romanesque architecture were related in many ways, but they also contrasted in style too. Over time, masons began to test the waters and push the limits. They thought of new ways to add lighting and ways to allow more height to the building without it being to heavy and weak. Many of the reasons for the change in styles had a lot to do with society and the changes it faced. There was a greater intensity occurring in piety and literature. The Gothic style embodied this new urban society. Romanesque and Gothic shared similar characteristics, but Gothic architecture was a greater departure from its previous predecessor. The Romanesque architecture style, which occurred during the late 11th century to the middle 12th century, literally means ââ¬Å"roman-likeâ⬠architecture. The Romans, who were inspired by the Etruscans, used barreled and groined vaulting. Romanesque architects later adapted the use of rounded arches, giving the style its name. The Romanesque style, being inspired by the Roman architecture, used the plan of the basilica style. Romanesque cathedrals were not originally designed for aesthetic purposes. Romanesque style replaced flat wood ceilings with stone vaulting. It was one of the first styles to use mainly all stone, but the walls of the Romanesque cathedrals were built very thickly. They were almost like a fortress. Romanesque cathedrals had few windows as a result of their thick walls so the churches were very dark. In a sense, this echoed the life that was outside of these sanctuariesââ¬â¢ walls during the Middle Ages. Some Romanesque characteristics in architecture wer... ... the use of colorful stained glass windows and flying buttresses. The Gothic style was something awe-inspiring. Masons challenged gravity to create works of art that literally reached the heavens. Works Cited Camille, Michael. Gothic Art: Glorious Visions. Upper Saddle River (NJ): Prentice Hall, 1996. Print. Goal Statement Essay
Degree program: Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling Personal/Professional Goals My professional goal is to obtain Waldenââ¬â¢s Masterââ¬â¢s degree in mental health counseling with a specialization in trauma and crisis and become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I would especially like to work with soldiers who have been affected by frequent deployments and their families to help them overcome their personal and social problems that have, without a doubt, strong negative influences on their lives. Throughout my life I have always been drawn to opportunities that helped others lead a healthier and happier life. As a military spouse I have witnessed the need the military community has for qualified mental health professionals and decided to pursue the counseling profession to give back to the community that has provided my family with so much. My own personal experiences as a military spouse have helped me become quite familiar with the lifestyle and many challenges members of the military and their families face. I feel my own experiences would put me in the unique position to truly understand the conflicts of my clients, which will in turn increase credibility with my clients, and should greatly contribute to a good client-therapist relationship. My background allows for a close bond with the community I would like to work with. I feel I could make a significant difference in military familiesââ¬â¢ lives with the aid of a degree in mental health counseling. Personal Qualities I possess various people skills that are, in my opinion, vital to mental health professionals in terms of perceptual, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. I am a very diligent and attentive person who deeply cares for others. It is important for me to help others overcome their own difficulties or lighten their burdens through therapy. Through my own experiences in the past I have learned happiness and fulfillment start in oneââ¬â¢s own heart and, most importantly, oneââ¬â¢s own mind. The profession of mental health counselor will provide me with the opportunity to contribute to my community in a meaningful way. Why Walden? As a working mother and wife, I feel the online format of learning has provided me with the greatest amount of opportunities. Waldenââ¬â¢s qualityà mental health counseling program is exactly what I was looking for because it allows me to continue to support my family financially while pursuing an excellent education. I would be honored to become part of Walden Universityââ¬â¢s pool of students, and I am looking forward to the deep immersion in the study of counseling strategies, intervention models, and the early diagnosis and prevention of problems. Thank you for your consideration.

Mozart Sonata Essay
The succession of the pieces (Bach ââ¬â Toccata in D minor, Mozart ââ¬â Sonata in B flat, Liszt ââ¬â Transcendental Etude No. 9, and Rachmaninoff ââ¬â Sonata no. 2 in B-flat Minor) are arranged in order to typify the transgression of music development from the contrapuntal baroque form represented by Johann Sebastian Bach, the gradual transposition of the sonata form between the rococo and classical eras through Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the combination of tonal heaviness and virtuosity as found in the compositions of Franz Liszt and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Each composition is characterized through the era in which it is composed in order to understand the development of musical forms, styles, and influences from the early17th century to the late 18th century. Bach represented the strict polyphonic harmony of the era characterized through two independent tonal forms in the melody and bass which separated may stand alone as two separate melodies; but combined, the tones form another different melody which sharply represents the ââ¬Ëdetailed heavinessââ¬â¢ of the baroque era, not only characterized in music but also art disciplines as well (Griffiths 101). Mozartââ¬â¢s sonatas are generally identified as playful tunes ranging from early pieces which show influences of other composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn to later developments which clearly show Mozartââ¬â¢s musical genius. His sonatas are a gradual transition from the polyphonic form to the utilization of the monophonic or single melody form. On the other hand, Liszt and Rachmaninoff represented a total break from the early baroque/classical periods wherein the romantic period identified their works to be focused on expression or emotion while maintaining regard from the development of the classical sonata form. Lisztââ¬â¢s compositions are noted for its technical beauty and virtuosity requirement while Rachmaninoffââ¬â¢s compositions are generally heavier compared to the varying degrees of tonal structure found in Lisztââ¬â¢s (Copland 91). First, we analyze Bachââ¬â¢s Toccata in D minor. Mainly one of the most recognizable pieces in music, the composition is arranged for the pipe organ where the instrument magnifies the full grandeur of the composition as well as the sound of the instrument itself. The piece is actually followed with a fugue which is generally the follow-up the contrapuntal polyphonic style of the Toccata. As mentioned, the piece is an example of polyphonic structure where the melody and bass are two separate melodies that produce one harmony. Tempo in common time, the whole structure of the piece is free form with a slight repetition of the theme followed by a series of thematic development. The color is somehow dark, generally typified by the heavy sound of the instrument itself as well as the tonal forte of the chords. On the other hand, Mozartââ¬â¢s sonata sharply contrasts with the color of Bachââ¬â¢s as the melody is lighter with the tempo set to a fast yet playful manner. The piece is separated into three movements and as the title suggests, it is structured in the sonata form identified through the introduction, exposition, development, recapitulation and coda. Meanwhile, Lisztââ¬â¢s ninth Transcendental Etude vary from a change in color and tone through the succession of octaves which give emphasis on the opposition of high and low tones. The piece is also different in the sense that the melody is much more expressive or romantic through arpeggios and the playfulness of the scales compared with Mozartââ¬â¢s playful theme. Lastly, Rachmaninoffââ¬â¢s Sonata no. 2 in B flat is much heavier compared to the aforementioned compositions because of the emphasis on color and tone. In contrast with Lisztââ¬â¢s, the composition opens with a sudden crash of octaves which introduce the ââ¬Ëheavyââ¬â¢ theme of the piece. The gradual development into the second movement becomes reminiscent of the Lisztââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ romantic theme but still identified with heaviness as found in the first movement. Neighborhood Watch Essay Example
Neighborhood Watch Essay Example Neighborhood Watch Essay Neighborhood Watch Essay Neighborhood Watch Program Neighborhood Watch Program A Neighborhood Watch is a program where neighbors look out for their neighbor against criminal actively and reporting suspicious activity to the local police agency. Community members can assist peace officers by being the eyes and ears within the neighborhood. A Neighborhood Watch program will be effective only if community members participate and cooperate with law enforcement to reduce crime within their neighborhood. A very important element to maintaining a Neighborhood Watch is to report suspicious activities and individuals that may cause harm to the neighborhood. A Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that recruits energetic citizens in collaboration with the local police agency to help diminish high crime rates, solve conflicts within the community, and make the neighborhoods safer and improve the quality of life in their community. Neighborhood watch is a program that has a successful effect on the community. The success of any Neighborhood Watch Program depends on the participation and dedication of its members as well as knowledge and informationâ⬠(Neighborhood, 2009). In doing so citizens are taught how to help themselves and the community by distinguishing and exposure to any suspicious or unlawful activities, protect their love ones, their property, and those of their neighborââ¬â¢s property and family. A Neighborhood Watch focus on surveillance in order to develop awareness as a means of keeping its members alert of community activities. This program also makes use of plans that each affiliate should notify each specific member hurriedly in the occurrence of illegal activity in the neighborhood to active citizenââ¬â¢s patrols by groups. Citizens involved in neighborhood watch programs provide assistance within the community such as abnormal measures whenever they are observed, reporting crime, and given that support to crime victims. Neighborhood watch programs use street signs to help reduce crimes, prevent thefts, and burglaries by warning the unauthorized persons that they are being watched at all times by surveillance cameras. In a neighborhood watch program every member has the same responsibility and dedication to have a productive neighborhood watch program. The law enforcement agency provides support and direction as well as an active workforce and logistical support to the efforts of the neighborhood watch program. Citizens trying to implement such a program are tired of all the crimes being committed in their area such as murder, burglary, robbery, gangs, drugs, and graffiti. Citizens are frustrated with the way crimes take over a neighborhood and the daily activities society has to face. Some people would come home in fear for their lives dreading the thought of being murdered or shot, sounds of gun shots from a drive-by shooter leaving those to run for shelter, kidnapped, or even robbed. Society is feed up and wants one thing out of the neighborhood watch program and that is to bring a community together in a safer and normal environment to bring back control of their neighborhoods and reduce crime rates in that area. Crimes in the community can get out of control due to drugs, gangs, graffiti, robberies, and burglaries if it shows that no one cares. These types of neighborhoods with these types of problems can give the appearance that no one cares which can cause crime to increase. By dealing with the disorder and keeping an open communication and partnership with the police department and other agencies a reduction in crime will soon follow. A Neighborhood Watch Program will provide the community with members to learn how to prevent crimes to prevent the Broken Window Theory (1982) which consists of a problem solving theory based on the idea that one unchecked problem may lead to other problems. Crimes can flourish in areas in which disorderly behavior goes unchecked. For example, an abandon house can lead to graffiti, illegal dumping, prostitution, and drinking in public. Most criminals believe they reduce their chances of being caught if they operate on streets that show signs of neglect by the community. At the start of a neighborhood watch each member was given a survey to answer 5 questions regarding their neighborhood and the type of crimes that occur in the community. Neighborhood Watch SurveyOn a scale of 1-10 with 10 being great and 1 being poor complete the following survey. 1. How safe do you feel in the comfort of your home? 2. How would you rate the crime level in your neighborhood? 3. How would the community feel in assisting to prevent crime? 4. Do you think that a neighborhood watch program will help your community? 5. How reliable do you think that a neighborhood watch program will be affective for the neighborhood? | Community members from the two divisions answered the above questions and provided their opinion regarding their neighborhood. West Los Angeles members consist of 40 Caucasian and Asian descent members with the income of over $100,000. 00 dollars. The members are concerned about their community and they feel the crime that occurs in their neighborhood is just as bad as the crime that occurs within 77th Street Division. 77th Street community members consist of 25 African American and Hispanic Descent members with low or middle class income. 77th Street community members are extremely concerned about their area, and feel ignored or threatened by the police and politicians and is begging for help. The success of the Neighborhood Watch Program depends on the participation and dedication of the residents as well as knowledge and information being received (Neighborhood, 2009). Attempting to start a neighborhood watch program may intimidate the community due to the type of the crimes that are currently committed by people the residents face day to day. In addition, community members will be able to discuss crime statistics in the area and bring a list of local and international contacts to help with the organizing, and maintenance of the community program (Neighborhood, 2009). Below is a chart of two city neighborhoods within the City of Los Angeles and is patrolled by Los Angeles Police Department. Neighborhood Watch Crime Statistics Reports77th Street Division 08/01/201009/01/201010/01/201011//2010Burglary:9998105101BFMV: 86979895Rape:5 887Homicide:2 0 11Robbery:90 97 9092West Los Angeles Division08/01/201009/01/201010/01/201011//2010Burglary: 59444464BFMV: 108106131117Rape:2112Homicide:0 000Robbery: 14 1057| LAPD C-PAB, 2010) According to LAPDââ¬â¢s crime statistics 77th Street Division has more crime in all categories except for Burglary Theft from Motor Vehicles. It is the goal of 77th Street Area to strengthen the Community-Police partnership by increasing the numbers of youth in juvenile programs and providing opportunities for volunteer workers. 77th Street Division provides information to community members such as crimes that occur after school hours, late in the afternoon, and during the day and evenings on weekends. By providing a more functioned Community Police program for community members will teach them to understand each type of crime ad what kind of crime happens each day for example, Criminals are interested in stealing cell phones by individuals who are merely walking down the street. West LA is number 2 out of the 21 divisions within LAPD to have fewer crimes. West Los Angeles Area has fewer crimes than 77th Streetââ¬â¢s area except for BFMVââ¬â¢s due to criminals from other areas that come to WLAââ¬â¢s area only to commit crimes such as burglary. West LA provides their community members within the area to keep valuables out of their vehicle or locked up inside the vehicle to prevent a theft. The community relation office has the youth from the juvenile programs passed out flyers and stickers to each home and vehicle where the crime occur the most. A Neighborhood Watch program can be effective and ineffective in various neighborhoods, depending on the rapport that an individualââ¬â¢s possess with community members and city officials. In order for such programs to be effective all participants including residents and city officials are expected to work together to resolve common goals and that is to raise community awareness in safety and crime prevention. ââ¬Å"Typically, Neighborhood Watch groups organize to respond to an immediate threat-a series of rapes, a sharp increase in burglaries, rising fear of street crimeâ⬠(Crime Prevention, 2009). For instance, West Los Angeles community members are proactive and involved in neighborhood programs so they can protect their property and their wealth. A major concern is maintaining a safe environment in the areas where their children are raised. These are some of the reasons neighborhood watch programs are effective in certain areas because residents know that their voices will make a difference. Residents of the community often find it necessary to attend community meetings suggesting new ideas in regard to safety, outreach programs and making complaints about concerns in the community. Residents are often are assertive in protecting their assets such as homes, cars, businesses, which plays a huge part their everyday image and lifestyle. Crime rates in the West Los Angeles areas are lower than South Los Angeles because residents bond together and are often more proactive in reporting crime when it occurs. In South L. A. community members have different outlooks in his or her community and possess different relationships with city officials and peace officers. Many residents living in the community do not own the property in which they reside so therefore, they are not concerned about the surroundings and what is revolving around them until it is too late. Residents have negative outlooks on support from city officials because of different situations they have experienced. Members are also reluctant in participating in such programs due to fear that he or she may be labeled as a snitch or fear of retaliation which is one of many reasons crime statistics are so high. When residents are afraid to come forward and report incidents, crime continues because the individuals committing these crimes have not been apprehended. When the negative outweighs the positive in communities, the success rates for neighborhood watch programs are ineffective. Recommendations to improve the communication and relationship between the community and police agencies are to improve the communication between the two. It is the responsibility of a police agency to provide meetings to address drug abuse, gang awareness, elderly abuse, rape prevention, and providing information on how to protect their homes such as proper lighting that surrounds a home. It is important to acknowledge the success and recognize the communityââ¬â¢s volunteers through yearly carnivals, community dinners, and providing an Open House to the police and fire stations. National Night Out is conducted by each police agency by law and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. National Night Out is opening the up a police station to the community so the community can be aware of what police officer job duties are to protect the community from harm. 77th Division needs bridge the gap they have with the community and open up more through neighborhood churches, schools, and neighborhood watches. In conclusion, a Neighborhood Watch Program helps families to control the activities within their neighborhood and staying in control. To improve the relationship it starts with educating the community of what to be aware of and how to provide information to the police department instead of ignoring the problem as if it doesnââ¬â¢t exist. A neighborhood can enhance their identity and pride through the above recommendations by having Open House, Carnivals, and providing a National Night Out each year. Crime prevention is more important to a Neighborhood Watch member which assist the neighborhood to safe from any harm doing. Community members must know their neighborhood which will guarantee the safety of the community. Reference Director of neighborhood watch. (2009). Neighborhood Watch Program. Otis Case Study Essay Example
Otis Case Study Essay Example Otis Case Study Paper Otis Case Study Paper Otis would have gone through a major restructure of several of Its service offices, because an IS was being built from the ground up. Information was now going to be traversing through a streamlined information channel, rather than layers of hierarchical structure. A lot of resources would have been invested in training employees about the new processes, and training managers about the added responsibilities and new information that was going to be available as a result of OUTSHINE. Any sort of organizational change experiences resistance from stakeholders in one form or the other. Toots employees might have resisted the change for a number of reasons. Fear of redundancy, added responsibility without any change in remuneration, lack of self-confidence in acquiring new skills required for the Job, lack of perspective as to why the change was being implemented, or imply too comfortable with the status quo, are some examples of the form of resistance that Otis might have had to overcome (Melcher, Rata, Bray Vane, 2012). Information Transformation Obvious noticed the change in the industry, and the way business was being done, Ana presented a violin Tort Otis: 10 Decode ten recognizes leader In service excellence among all companies-not Just elevator companies-worldwide. (McFarland Delayed, 2005). His aim was to create a paradigm shift within the organization from being a product manufacturing company to an excellent customer focused service provider. Due to regional and cultural variations within manufacturing, sales and supply-chain departments, he decided to streamline the department processes globally by using technology as an enabler. The organization went through a third- order change of transformation, whereby the existing IS was changed drastically. Its focus was shifted from managing production and physical assets to managing logistics and information, and this caused a systemic effect on all the other departments (McFarland Delayed, 2005; Piccolo, 2007). As a part of this transformation, departments were restructured and new process improvement orgasm were implemented on a global basis. Programs such as Standard Interface and Modular Based Architecture (SAMBA), Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE), and Sales and Installation Process (SIP), were introduced in engineering, supply chain, and sales and field operations departments, respectively (McFarland Delayed, 2005). E*Logistics Project The most significant aspect of this IS transformation was the e*Logistics information transformation project (McFarland Delayed, 2005). It provided the tools, in the form of IT systems, which were required to re-engineer business processes across the many. The project involved merging separate IT initiatives that were under development within Otis, with the basic idea of connecting different departments of the organization through the Web. Giuliani Did Francesco was appointed the Project Director of e*Logistics, perhaps due to his experience working in quite a few departments of the company, or because he might have had a vested interest in the transformation (McFarland Delayed, 2005). Under his supervision, e*Logistics automated manual processes involved in different stages of product installation and maintenance, while simultaneously integrating the dispersed data and information on a global scale. Back-end Technologies The technologies behind the development of e*Logistics were based on standardized data interfaces, and they were owned and built by Otis itself. This means that the software solutions were designed to incorporate and adapt to existing technologies, rather than designing solutions with fresh technologies from square one (McFarland Delayed, 2005). The new business model and companys vision were instilled into Otis on a global scale. Senior management ensured that every employee, from top to OTTOMH, was on-board the change Otis was about to embark upon, and that employees were willing to adapt to the technological and organizational restructuring (Messier, Rata, Bray Vane, 2012). The company valued the role of its employees in successfully implementing this change, and therefore invested resources in familiarizing them with technologies. It was this tactic that enabled them to reap extraordinary benefits by using simple IT tools. Institutionalizing Changes Since the launch of e*Logistics, changes to sale orders became transparent across different levels of the sales cycle. SIP program was based on the idea of identifying best practices across different units of Otis, globally. During the project proposal phase, SIP recognized that a pre-bid checklist was an appropriate way of managing new clients. Elogistics anomie tons Day Introducing a steward solution, Instead AT paper based forms, which enforced a sign-off from both sales and field-installation supervisors(McFarland Delayed, 2005). This eliminated information inconsistency between the two units, and also helped in other aspects of this phase by retaining consistent information about customers and proposals. Upon acceptance of a proposal, the order would enter the next phase of sales processing. E*Logistics automated and institutionalized the new processes of this phase by electronically dispersing important documents amongst the managerial staff for bookings, validations and scheduling. Data was uploaded to different financial systems of the company, and as a result of these automated processes and clear visibility of sales orders, field-installation supervisors were able to better assess the readiness of a site, thereby reducing costs and excess inventory, while improving delivery times McFarland Delayed, 2005). To improve processes in the order fulfillment phase, Contract logistics centers (CLC) and distribution centers (Docs) were established to manage customer requirements, product configurations and supply chain management. Instead of faxing or mailing sales orders, e*Logistics provided a central software solution which connected CLC on a global level. As a result, CLC were able to place orders from different suppliers in a cost-effective and timely manner (McFarland Delayed, 2005). E*Logistics embedded new processes in the field installation phase as well, by sending reminder e-mails to field-installation supervisors, and demanding an update of the field sites prior to shipping the products. Orders were now processed and shipped Just-in-time, as per remote requests from the field-installation supervisors. These processes gave the supervisors a better control on the fiscal accomplishment of each sale (McFarland Delayed, 2005). E*Logistics also automated the process of billing customers and transitioning sales into service contracts, by prompting service agents to contact customers upon Job completion. This resulted in precise billing, increased conversion of new-unit sales to service contracts, and faster collections in the closing activities phase (McFarland Delayed, 2005). The above five phases highlight how e*Logistics baked new best-practice processes into the organization. Implementation In 2001, Ron Beaver became the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Otis with 450 IT employees and 250 contractors reporting to him on a dotted-line basis. He was the leader of global IT with seven regional IT leaders reporting to him directly, who were responsible for their local systems and processes. 0 of the aforementioned staff were dedicated towards design and implementation of e*Logistics, and it was not deemed as a separate investment to all the other programs that were introduced for process improvements (McFarland Delayed, 2005). Rather, it was considered as an enabler to implement those programs successfully. As with any IS transformation project, there were a number of technological challenges involved in ensuring successful implementation of e*Logistics. Delivering the software to over 20,000 desktops across the organization, and training over 3000 staff in sales and field- operations worldwide, were a couple of such challenges faced by Otis (McFarland Delayed, 2005). Therefore, to minimize the associated risks, the project was rolled out at pilot sites across Europe. Its successful implementation at pilot sites aided in planning implementation in other regions, which were priorities based upon need Ana return on Investment (McFarland Delayed, 2 I en projects success was measured based on a number of metrics, such as number of orders processed through e*Logistics by each sales representative (McFarland Delayed, 2005). Conclusion The organization invested a lot of resources into streamlining its processes globally and shifting its focus from product flow to information flow.

Productivity Management - Essay Example He illustrates the benefits of utilizing the system in a managerial perspective. Such advantages include diminished stress, decreased rates of procrastination, work balance, increased motivation, vitality, and overall achievements. In addition, the team will be more focused in achievement of goals. There is a rise in time improvement and people management, creativity and freedom. A leader cannot be successful without the cohorts of the scheme described above. It all assists the leader to work and lead others strategically, working towards achievement of clear goals (Allen, 2008). The parallels presented by the author are very valid and relate well with the five functions of management. Without proper incorporation of the five functions of management in any firm, the model described above cannot work to great success. The five functions of management are planning, organizing, directing, staffing, coordination and to some extent budgeting. Proper utilization of each management function will bring order, saving time and hence increasing productivity as the extent of confusion is decreased largely. Planning acts as a cover-up of all the other functions of management. The concepts presented aid one to have a planned life, a life that will demonstrate order as one moves in a certain direction to achieve leadership objectives. In essence, the parallels presented work hand in hand with the five functions of management to influence to a leaderââ¬â¢s life

Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway had three children together ââ¬â a son, Ham net, who died in 1596, and two daughters, Susanna and Judith. His only granddaughter Elizabeth ââ¬â daughter of Susanna ââ¬â died childless in 1670. Shakespeare therefore has no descendants. Shakespeare died a rich man. He made several gifts to various people but left his property to his daughter, Susanna. The only mention of his wife in Shakespeares own will is: ââ¬Å"I give unto my wife my second best bed with the furnitureâ⬠. The ââ¬Å"furnitureâ⬠was the bedclothes for the bed. Shakespeare was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon. He put a curse on anyone daring to move his body from that final resting place. His epitaph was: Good friend for Jesusââ¬â¢ sake forbear, To dig the dust enclosed here: Blest be the man that spares these stones, And curst be he that moves my bones. Though it was customary to dig up the bones from previous graves to make room for others, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s remains are still undisturbed. During his life, Shakespeare wrote 37 plays and 154 sonnets! This means an average 1. 5 plays a year since he first started writing in 1589. His last play The Two Noble Kinsmen is reckoned to have been written in 1613 when he was 49 years old. While he was writing the plays at such a pace he was also conducting a family life, a social life and a full business life, running an acting company and a theatre. Few people realize that apart from writing his numerous plays and sonnets, Shakespeare was also an actor who performed many of his own plays as well as those of other playwrights. During his life Shakespeare performed before Queen Elizabeth I and, later, before James I who was an enthusiastic patron of his work. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s profession was acting. He is listed in documents of 1592, 1598 and 1603 as an actor. We know that he acted in a Ben Jonson play and also in his own plays but itââ¬â¢s thought that, as a very busy man, writing, managing the theatre and commuting between London and his home in Stratford where is family was, he didnââ¬â¢t undertake big parts. There is evidence that he played the ghost in Hamlet and Adam in As You Like It. In Elizabethan theatre circles it was common for writers to collaborate on writing plays. Towards the end of his career Shakespeare worked with other writers on plays that have been credited to those writers. Other writers also worked on plays that are credited to Shakespeare. We know for certain that Timmons of Athens was a collaboration with Thomas Middleton; Pericles with George Wilkins; and The Two Noble Kinsmen with John Fletcher. Some scholars have maintained that Shakespeare did not write the Shakespeare plays, with at least fifty writers having been suggested as the ââ¬Å"realâ⬠author. However, the evidence for Shakespeareââ¬â¢s having written the plays is very strong. Shakespeare is the second most quoted writer in the English language ââ¬â after the various writers of the Bible. Suicide occurs an unlucky thirteen times in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays. It occurs in Romeo and Juliet where both Romeo and Juliet commit suicide, in Julius Caesar where both Cassius and Brutus die by consensual stabbing, as well as Brutusââ¬â¢ wife Portia. Some of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s signatures have survived on original documents. In none of them does he spell his name in what has become the standard way. He spells it Shakespere and Shakespear. Shakespeare lived a double life. By the seventeenth century he had become a famous playwright in London but in his hometown of Stratford, where his wife and children were, and which he visited frequently, he was a well known and highly respected businessman and property owner. The American President Abraham Lincoln was a great lover of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays and frequently recited from them to his friends. His assassin, John Wilkes Booth was a famous Shakespearean actor. Although it was illegal to be a Catholic in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s lifetime, the Anglican Archdeacon, Richard Davies of Litchfield, who had known him wrote some time after Shakespeareââ¬â¢s death that he had been a Catholic. Candles were very expensive in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s time so they were used only for emergencies, for a short time. Most writers wrote in the daytime and socialized in the evenings. There is no reason to think that Shakespeare was any different to his contemporaries. It was illegal for women and girls to perform in the theatre in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s lifetime so all the female parts were written for boys. The text of some plays like Hamlet and Antony and Cleopatra refer to that. It was only much later, during the Restoration, that the first woman appeared on the English stage. There are only two Shakespeare plays written entirely in verse: they are Richard II and King John. Many of the plays have half of the text in prose. Shakespeare wrote many more plays than the ones we know about. Itââ¬â¢s certain that he wrote a play titled Cardenas, which has been lost, but scholars think he wrote about twenty that have gone without a trace. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s shortest play, The Comedy of Errors is only a third of the length of his longest, Hamlet, which takes four hours to perform. Two of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays, Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing, have been translated into Klingon. The Klingon Language Institute plans to translate more. All Uranusââ¬â¢ satellites are named after Shakespearean characters. William Shakespeareââ¬â¢ is an anagram of ââ¬ËI am a weakfish spellerââ¬â¢. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s original grave marker showed him holding a bag of grain. Citizens of Stratford replaced the bag with a quill in 1747. William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the worlds pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called Englands national poet and the Bard of Avon.

Blakes The Songs of Innocence Essay -- Songs Innocence blake Essays
Blake's The Songs of Innocence The Songs of Innocence poems first appeared in Blakeââ¬â¢s 1784 novel, An Island in the Moon. In 1788, Blake began to compile in earnest, the collection of Songs of Innocence. And by 1789, this original volume of plates was complete. These poems are the products of the human mind in a state of innocence, imagination, and joy; natural euphoric feelings uninhibited or tainted by the outside world. Following the completion of the Songs of Innocence plates, Blake wrote The Marriage of Heaven and Hell and it is through this dilemma of good and evil and the suffering that he witnesses on the streets of London, that he begins composing Songs of Experience. This second volume serves as a response to Songs of Innocence in that Blake is demonstrating the two polar or contrary states of the human soul and in the world that he sees around him. The images, engravings, and lyrics in Songs of Experience are much more severe, excruciating, and intense in comparison to the lighter tones of Songs o f Innocence. When we look at the poems in Songs of Innocence and Experience, we see that while Blake reveals both the light and dark aspects of the human existence, we also see that this dichotomy is not always a finite, black and white generalization. That is, Blake emphasizes that both the innocent and experienced states of the human soul are achievable at any moment, regardless of age, past actions, or station in life. This reinforces the idea that Blakeââ¬â¢s conception of God is the power of illumination in each one of us and it is through the poetic genius that we make this discovery throughout the ongoing process of life. A comparison between poems from each volume illustrates these ideas and serves to demonstra... ...t, each of us can come to know God and understand our relationship with the universe through the discovery of our poetic genius. Blakeââ¬â¢s methodology of channeling his spiritual energy through his work is accomplished through the combination of poetry, song, and visual art. This provides the reader with a full aesthetic experience that universally encourages the illumination of the human soul. Through his poems which identify various types of people and situations, Blake adds that this religious experience is not limited to the creative arts. In fact, he suggests that the poetic genius is attainable through focused manual labor, intellectual conversation, and philosophical reflection, among other activities. Manââ¬â¢s universal ability to find God through his poetic genius is Blakeââ¬â¢s inspiration, philosophy, and theological message in Songs of Innocence and Experience.

Effect of Culture in International Business
Culture is an important part of International Business. Culture is defining the collection of values, beliefs, behaviours, customs and attitudes of the member in the society. Culture is the behaviour that people act in the community. The characteristic of culture is also reflects learned behaviour that is transmitted from one member to another in society. There are also basic elements cultures such as social structure, language and religious. So the foreigner who wants to operate the business at the overseas market have to understand the culture at the local market to become successful. In this report also compare between the similarities of culture between two countries such as Thailand-Malaysia and different in culture between China and United States. The term ââ¬ËCultureââ¬â¢ can be can be defined in more than 160 ways. According to (Terpstra and David 1985) they proposed the meaning of culture in international Management context based on Hostedeââ¬â¢s definition is refers to the group of people in the society of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects. Culture is symbolic communication. Some of its symbols include a group's skills, knowledge, attitudes, values, and motives. The meanings of the symbols are learned and deliberately from the generation to generation. Culture is also the collective programming of communication for people in the community to understand such as language and behaviour and also to make the connection by communication with other community. Culture is one of the important parts of International business undertaking Importing and Exporting in foreign markets. So the organisation that operating international have to understand the differences in values and ethical behaviour for the organisation to work efficient in the international markets. Many organisations lost the opportunities due to the lack of understanding of international markets. Characteristics of Culture Culture is the set of values, attitudes, beliefs, behaviour. The society culture are describes the behaviour and rules which determine the way of how the organisation operate in the community. Culture is also reflects learned behaviour that is transmitted from one member to another in society. Culture is also the adaptive because the effect from the external environment such as multinational international business, technology and tourism. Also the improvement of communication such as mobile phone and internet with the low cost which allow people and organisations developed greater cross cultural exchange between the organisations. The basic elements of Culture in international business are: â⬠¢ Social Structure â⬠¢ Language â⬠¢ Religion The Social structure is the cultureââ¬â¢s beliefs about the role in community. The organisationââ¬â¢s predominately how to work with each other in the organisation. Social attitude is reflected in the importance of how to work together in the organisations. Language Language is a primary cultural in the society because it is very important for societyââ¬â¢s members to communicate between members. There are over 3,000 languages and as many as 10,000 in worldwide. Religion is also the important part of society. Religion influences the attitudes members in the community towards work, investment, consumption and responsibility. For example: Thailand Languages in Thailand The Thai language is the main language in Thailand also there is several regional languages spoke as well. Other languages spoken in Thailand are Chinese, Lao, Malay and Mon-Khmer, while English is later becoming more predominate in commerce of international. I Thailand, English is also now becoming the second language in secondary school and universities. Thai Society & Culture Hierarchical Society . Thailand organisation is respect hierarchical relationships. . Social relationships are defined as person is the leader being superior and make the decision for the other members in the organisation. . Management teams are superior to employees, alder employees to the younger employees, and bosses to their subordinates. . When Thai organisation meeting the outsider, they will immediately try to place outsider within a hierarchy so they know how the outsider should be treated. . This is often done by asking what might be seen as very personal questions in other cultures. . Status can be determined by clothing and general appearance, age, job, education, family name, and social connections. Etiquette & Customs in Thailand Meeting In business . The ââ¬Ëwaiââ¬â¢ is the traditional form of greeting, given by the person of lower status to the person of higher status. So in the business is normally visitor will be greeding before the host. . Thais generally use first rather than surnames, with the honorific title Khun before the name. This is the very appropriate polite way and very good start to do the business. Relationships & Communication â⬠¢ Thai people prefer to do the business with the people whom they respect. â⬠¢ The Thai people also very concern about trust. So itââ¬â¢ll require the foreigner who wants to do the business in Thailand have to follow the way of Thai culture and do not rushing to do the business. â⬠¢ Always be respectful to each other when dealing the business with the others as it can leads to smoothly relationship in doing the business. . Thai communication is formal and non-verbal communication is often more important than verbal communication. . Rank is always been respectful. The eldest person in the organisation will be the most respectful from the other members in the organisation. . It is difficult for most Thais to say no, so you must be cognizant of their non- verbal communication. . Also body language is also important to do the business in Thailand. Because body language can telling about how professional the outsider are. Face The concept of saving face is important in Thai society. So to do business in Thailand, Thai people will do anything to prevent loss of face. For example, normally to avoiding confrontation and rather choosing to tell others what they want to hear rather than dealing immediately. So to Criticising someone in public and breaking the promises are various ways that unpermitted in Thailand. Thailand is a fascinating and very complex country, because Thailand has history of religious for centuryââ¬â¢s philosophy, immigrant know-how and wisdom coming from foreign trade and commerce. Due to the culture complexity, which make it very hard to understand from the foreigner to doing business in Thailand. The international business might loss their opportunities to operate the manufacture in Thailand because lack of knowledge about local culture. The answer to the question whether cultural similarities would lead to greater trade among countries is both yes and no. Logically, cultural similarities will make trade easier for each other because of the mutual understanding between both countries. But thatââ¬â¢s not often case for all countries. Similarities in culture sometimes would lead to copyright and property claims. This is why there are two answers for the question. Examples will be given to support each answer respectively. Malaysia and Indonesia is example of countries that share an identical culture amongst each other. Both countries are located geographically in the South East Asia region. Both of these countries are often called siblings due to its size. The Malay language is an Austronesian language spoken not only by Malaysians but all Malay people who reside in the Malay Peninsula, southern Thailand, the Philippines and Singapore. It is also very similar to Indonesian, known locally as Bahasa Indonesia. Other than having an almost identical language, there are other cultures such as uniforms and traditional music instrument that are also similar. Sharing almost identical and similar cultures donââ¬â¢t usually work well for both of this country. In recent years, disputes and misunderstanding occur on problems such as claims of traditional copyright and territory claim has marked a black patch on the relationship of both countries. According to (Schonhardt, 2009) Similarities in culture, language and religious customs should make Indonesia and Malaysia good neighbors. But long-running spats over everything from territorial boundaries to cultural ownership of culinary dishes, dances, instruments and even Malaysia's national anthem have over the years hampered ties. This directly effects not only trades between the two countries but also gives a pessimistic view for foreign investors who are planning to invest heavily in both countries. Things arenââ¬â¢t always sour for both of the countries. Having a similar culture also helped both of the country in trading and making business with each other much more easier. For example, the number of imported maids from Indonesia to Malaysia is increasing by day. Indonesian maids find it easier to adapt to Malaysian culture, as it is not much of a difference with the culture back at home. Culture in this sense includes language, food and environment. It is reported that in the year 2007, two leaders of both countries has signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint trade and investment committee to address issues and recommend measures to enhance bilateral trade and investment. www.indlawnews.com, 25 January 2008 This in particular shows how countries with similar culture can work together.

Educational Preparation Essay
There are many differences in the competencies of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Bachelorââ¬â¢s of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates. To start, I think it is best to look at the through the perspective studentââ¬â¢s eyes when they are deciding which type of program to attend. The first question one may ask is ââ¬Å"How long is this going to take?â⬠On average, an ADN program takes 3 years to complete, the BSN requires a minimum of 4 yeas. The difference in the length of programs is first based on the amount of prerequisites required. ââ¬Å"While Associate Degree in Nursing students do need to take science prerequisites and some liberal arts classes, they donââ¬â¢t have to earn nearly as many credits in this area as BSN students do.â⬠(ADN vs BSN Debate I Difference in Competencies, Salary & Education.2013) ââ¬Å"Instead of the sixty-six nursing credits that a BSN student must complete, the student in the associate degree program needs forty-nine nursing creditsâ⬠(ADN vs BSN Debate I Difference in Competencies, Salary & Education.2013) Therefore, the ADN program takes less time to complete, is more condensed, and is more focuses on clinical skills. BSN programs have a direct goal of not only graduating clinically competent nurses, but nurses that understand that this profession is deeply rooted in science and theory. The differences in competencies between the ADN and BSN nurse is based on this understanding of science. If you had to explain what science is in one word that word would be ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠. BSN programs are typically centered around critical thinking and evidence based practice ââ¬â they ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠of nursing. ââ¬Å"Numerous research studies have demonstrated that the ADN and BSN nurses are not different in skill competency when they graduate, but within a year, the BSN nurses show greater critical thinking skills, better problem solving, and the development of clinical judgment; three skills of increasing importance for the increase in acuity of patients in hospitals and other health care settings.â⬠(West Coast University: Deanââ¬â¢s Corner ââ¬â The Differences Between Associate Degree Nurses and the Baccalaureate Degree Nurses.2009) The ability to use critical thinking when caring for a patient is what defines all other competencies. Competencies arenââ¬â¢t based on just the task the nurse is about to complete, but knowing why she is working towards completing this task. Without that training in understanding the ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠, her competencies are limited to just tasks. A fast growing trend in nursing today is complex technology used in patient care. Often times the nurse finds herself faced with not only caring for the patient, but managing high-tech equipment involved in that patient care. Being a resourceful nurse is not just beneficial, but crucial to patient care. BSN prepared graduates are experts in research due to the expectations in the BSN curriculum. ââ¬Å"A major concern in an era of evidence-based practice is that the majority of practicing nurses have not experienced a formal research course. These classes are generally lacking outside of the baccalaureate curriculum. It would seem that an understanding of the research process would be necessary to deliver optimal patient careâ⬠(Ayers & Coeling, 2006; Thorpe & Smutko, 1998). The ability to conduct research appropriately is a skill that is taught. We live in an age where information is just a click away. If a nurse isnââ¬â¢t using the correct resources, the patient is the one that suffers. The push for continuing education in nursing is one of the many forces that shaped what nursing is today. The BSN prepared nurse encompasses the ability to be resourceful, a bold and capable critical thinker, and one that will lead the profession into a strong future. As a nurse, we should never settle for just the standards put in front of us. We should always be looking for a way to improve patient care for the individual patient, as well as the practice of nursing as a whole. To settle for just the minimal requirements and standards of nursing is to just complete the tasks assigned to us. Developing critical thinking is what brings us to better patient outcomes. Learning to think ahead ââ¬â planning for the worst, expecting the best is what restores patient health. The human body is a dynamic, complex integration of systems working in unison to maintain life. If one of those systems is not working correctly the nurse is cued in because of our critical thinking skills. It is what keeps the nurseââ¬â¢s brain ââ¬Å"onâ⬠, assessing at a constant. Itââ¬â¢s not always the system weââ¬â¢re ââ¬Å"caring forâ⬠that tells us what is wrong. This is where the critical thinking comes in. We should always be asking ââ¬Å"whyâ⬠as a nurse. Elements of Project Management
Elements of Project Management Workplace Health and Safety, and PPE Personal Reflection The aspects of management style that have brought the best work out of me are adaptability and critical problem-solving skills (Davis 2008). The aspect of adaptability influenced the adjustments that I had to make in exercising influence over the need to remodel the concrete mixing ratio when constructing a temporary bridge in the Sussex region.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Elements of Project Management Workplace Health and Safety, PPE, B2B marketing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Through these adjustments, I was in a position to model a unique project remodeling that reassures and discerns the wants and desires of the local council. However, I was not able to balance the ability to oversee and proactively supervise the project since the risk mitigation was in the hand of the project supervisor. To make the project more successful, the managers ought to have encouraged interpersonal skills among the employees since they have an immeasurable value in the success of the project. However, this was difficult for the managers faced the constraints of limited vital soft skills among the employees such as project leadership and management skills, risk assessment skills, and rational decision making in the process of micromanagement of the bridge construction project. From experience in the bridge construction project, I need to develop the behavioral skills of project personnel such as the aspect of scientific management, which necessary in addition to proactive leadership approach. Topic discussion Project management at organizational and project level focuses on the objectives and set goals that are to be achieved through project implementation within the international safety standards. Individual project management skills such as motivation, inspiration, and revitalization of the project personnel, project leadership skills nurture col lective and self-responsibility to perform optimally in compliance with health and safety standards.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The challenges faced by on-site managers in maintaining WHS are micromanagement of different employees and quality assurance with varying levels of safety standards. To address these challenges, the manager should adopt a proactive approach towards connecting the mission, vision and objectives of a project to the unique dynamics of the project WHS environment (Davis 2008). With references to the development site at Jordan Springs, another challenge that cannot be easily segregated is the difficulty of balanced supplementary implementation of the project through project leadership skills, the culture of teamwork and common purpose will eventually climax in successful project execution. In order to mitigate this challenge, it is necessa ry to design a practical project tracking plan and progress assessment criteria through the application of project leadership and soft management skills (Workcover 2000). B2B marketing Personal Reflection Reflectively, I have always had a passion for a career in the construction industry. Specifically, the science and art of project management greatly influenced my degree choice and the conclusion to attend UWS. The UWS offers the necessary training in project leadership and management skills, which inspire creativity and innovativeness in the process of project management. Possession of relevant project leadership and management skills as appropriate recipe for an all-round and productive career in the construction industry impacted my decision. I went through career planning and future career development prospects when deciding to attend UWS. The main challenges I faced in the transition from school and university was the change in environment, the scope of topic coverage, and emb racing diversity as I meet students from all over the world who had unique beliefs and behavior. I have addressed these challenges by opening up, developing a proactive attitude and embracing the diversity in my new environment. Discussion A good brand positioning as a marketing strategy guides the marketing plan by illustrating the brands essence, and showing how it helps the agent achieve their goals.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Elements of Project Management Workplace Health and Safety, PPE, B2B marketing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In the construction industry, the need for marketing facilitates building of strong brands, amalgamation, or consolidation, which unites several sub-brands into a single unit that is more appealing to the potential investors. Strong brand strategy will facilitate the restructuring of effective support and awareness to develop product knowledge of the potential stakeholders. In the case of Jordan Spring construction project, effective marketing will persuade the general public to accept the project since its benefits are communicated in the marketing plan. If well merged with appropriate market mix, the strategy will secure a continuous quantitative increase of the market by continually maintaining relatively support of the products on offer as well as the maintenance of fair competition level from other competitors within the construction industry. Reflectively, marketing will form the primary educational tool for informing potential clients about the benefits, cost elements, and future property projections. Thus, stakeholders and potential investors will make rational decisions based on the information in the marketing strategy for the Jordan Springs project. The Penrith City Council has the role of certifying the construction project, recommending to the public the benefits of the project, and providing social security to interested stakeholders via authenticated the legality of the Jordan Springs construction project (Workcover 2000). Communication and Interpersonal Skills Personal Reflection My communication skills reflect on a constant communication culture characterized by individual professionalism, consistency, quality, adaptability in intra and interpersonal relation, rule of consultation in intra operation, healthy working environment, sensitive management and personal organization with minimal complications on performance and health. I have created a working stressor regulator by expressing anxieties proactively to exceedingly manage psychological and physical demands for comfortable cope up with the unfamiliar situations. Also, this regulator manages unrealistic personal pressure among other excessive demanding work and individual cognitive factors inclusive of health issues, relationship and inability to adjust to sudden change.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More I have a weakness in setting up simple, practical strategies to get to know and offer solutions to personal artificial impairment in communication before it generates into an interaction risk or harm (Rothwell 2005). Through designing personal tolerance model levels, I can address this challenge by developing a dependence of interest attached to an activity, creating proactive relationships, and monitoring their interaction with physical and psychological health within intra and interpersonal communication. To improve on personal communication, I would concentrate on establishing a good intra and interpersonal communication relationship at work as a security strategy for confidential sharing of work-related hiccups with fellow employees or a trusted staff mate. In addition, I would concentrate on preventive policy of creating informal inter-group meetings where the employees are given an opportunity to share experiences and encourage each other. I would then research on any pre evid ence of a recognizable stressor I know or ought to have known because of the work nature besides the work environment. Instead of playing the blame game, I would then concentrate on addressing these issues and where necessary providing personal rehabilitation program (Workcover 2000). Discussion There are two types of social conflicts: informal and formal (official). These social conflicts influence one another. For instance, the aspect is the mutual interests that exist between the company and its workers may lead to informal conflict. This mutual interest offers superordinate objective which can be achieved only through combined determination of the organization (employer) and individual workers to resolve the conflict via arbitration. Through negotiation, a company can establish internal procedures to address misconduct cases that bring conflict within the organization. This ensures that its organizational actions and objectives are ethical (Rothwell 2005). The first step in arbi tration and negotiation is to develop an expectation in the conflicting parties for a win-win solution so that a mutually satisfactory conclusion is arrived at. The second step is to define the general concerns, needs and interests though it can lead to arguments based on rights. The next stage is to brainstorm the creative suggestions from both the parties. The final step is to combine the best tips that you have received into a win-win solution. In doing this, care should be taken to reduce the cost of an agreement to the disadvantaged party. The specific issues that managers and supervisors need to address when it comes to conflict on the construction site include the scope interpersonal relations, working conditions, welfare provisions, and work environment since these elements significantly contribute to employee effectiveness and behavior. Therefore, these conflicts can be solved by examining psychosocial and physical well being of employees towards organizational effectivenes s and appropriate job performance and satisfaction. Psychosocial conditions impart more effect on the organizational effectiveness and job satisfaction. The impact of organizational environment and structure on employees behaviors is a crucial issue to put into consideration for the management of conflict at the construction site (Workcover 2000). Managing in the Global Environment ââ¬â the Virtual Organization Personal Reflection Reflectively, personal motivation forms the pinnacle of global leadership perspectives. Specifically, my drivers to complete work, assignment and other tasks are the foresight which is very crucial because it gives an individual a rough perspective and overview of the future concerning the expected and unexpected changes and challenges. Therefore, I always examine and evaluate my past and endeavor to adopt relevant skills that will be relevant for future challenges and responsibilities. Through designing personal task management model levels, my task o rientation module has remained active in developing dependence of interest attached to an activity, creating proactive relationships, and monitoring their interaction with physical and psychological health (Bustin 2004). Eventually, it has paid off since I have learnt to appreciate the essence of tolerance and necessity to stay active. Several external and internal pressures have a direct impact on my motivation and desire to succeed. As a proactive individual in the past assessments and a think out of the box personality, overcoming obstacles has been a cutting edge, especially when this involves a third party. Working with others consists of the flexibility of the mind and ability to proactively embrace different opinion. Diversity at workplace may exert pressure on personal development (Bustin 2004). The pressure to build a stable, practically oriented and qualitative problem solving criterion throughout life has impacted on my life since this experience has placed in me a practi cal work environment and added value to the desired skills for the future career path. Discussion Having online Creating Thinking classes enabled me to hypothesize within the context of how the application of learning methodology and guarded me against being subjected to the authoritarian teaching strategies; which often happens to be an integral part of the on the ground learning environment. I had much freedom in working on my homework assignments, and the choice to favor an integrative approach towards absorbing the taught material. However, face to face classes are more interactive and comprehensive since I had several opportunities to seek first-hand clarification on different topics (Workcover 2000). If the Creating Thinking classes were fully online, poor time management, outside influences and isolation would have negatively influenced my grade. Though online classes make the learning experience more comfortable, lecturers benefit more than students since the lecturers will spend a short time with the students. Thus, the learning experience will be very poor. IPad is a useful learning tool for students are empowered to comfortable study on and off-campus. IPad technology makes it easy for students to access class material and save them a lot of time in library research. Generally, the students embraced this project since it empowered them to embrace efficiency in learning (Bustin 2004). The specific needs of people working in the virtual organization within the construction industry include a stable and high-performance virtual support system, proper connectivity to the support structure, and necessary logistic support to complete the cycle of operation. To ensure morale, motivation and productivity, these needs can be addressed through the creation of a stable virtual platform and comprehensive training on the best support applications in the market (Workcover 2000). Working with people and Quality Management Personal Reflection I am a transformationa l, situational, and participatory leader. My leadership strengths are teamwork skills in managing good organizational culture by fostering a strong alignment on the set path of achieving goals. However, I am always impatient for success. In order to improve on my ability to work with others, I must develop leadership skills that inspire self-esteem and confidence among the staff through a proactive personal approach (Slack 2012). Discussion Total quality management is applied in the construction industry through efficiency matrix that aims at minimizing costs that will result in accumulated gains in construction projects. The application includes the aspect of cost, dependability, speed, quality, and flexibility in the costing matrix within a specified period (Slack 2012). When outsourcing, the management may face the challenges of balancing the sustainability goals and fulfilling the current demands against the interest of the local labor market. These challenges can be addressed t hrough franchising and balanced insourcing as opposed to uncontrolled outsourcing. When quality is compromised, an organization is likely to operate below its optimal point and make losses that can be avoided.
